Luciana Takata, MD, PhD, FISHRS, FAAD

Dr. Luciana Takata is an internationally recognized expert in hair restoration surgery, specializing in complex hair and scalp disorders. She is a Diplomate of both the American and International Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Her expertise spans follicular unit excision (FUE), eyebrow reconstruction using long hair, and corrective work for prior procedures.

Dr. Takata worked at the renowned Ruston Clinic in São Paulo, performing FUE hair transplants for both men and women. She has published widely in international medical journals and contributed to multiple book chapters, including the Unger Textbook of Hair Transplantation (FUE for corrective work and the stick-and-place technique) and Hair Transplant 360 (FUE from A to Z). Her “How I Do It” surgical approach and eyebrow reconstruction technique using long hair FUE were featured in Dermatologic Surgery Journal. She also developed a 5-step protocol for managing androgenetic alopecia in young patients, published in the Korean Society of Hair Restoration Surgery Journal.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Takata has served as an Oral Examiner for the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and currently serves on the ISHRS Pro Bono Committee, helping patients who’ve lost hair from trauma, accidents, or cancer. Her humanitarian work includes supporting victims of the Amazon region, featured in Hair Transplant Forum International in 2022.

She is one of the few dermatologic surgeons from Brazil to complete a Mohs Fellowship in Houston, where she performed over 700 cases involving complex reconstructions with flaps and grafts. She later founded the first Mohs surgery service and fellowship in Campinas, Brazil, training dermatologists in this specialized technique. Her work in cosmetic reconstructions is known for delivering the natural results patients expect.

Her latest research—Strip Harvesting Follicular Unit Transplantation Versus Follicular Unit Excision: Comparing the Number of Hairs and the Ratio of Hairs to Follicular Unit—was published in March 2024 in Dermatologic Surgery Journal.

Dr. Takata joins Dr. Ricardo Mejia, President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, to bring the most advanced hair loss treatments to patients. She represents the perfect combination of surgical expertise, scientific rigor, and compassion that defines our care at Jupiter Dermatology and Hair Restoration.
