He is spearheading a consumer awareness campaign by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, a Global non-profit, on the unlicensed practice of medicine called Fight the Fight and an event as part of the campaign called ISHRS World Hair Transplant Repair Day which will be held every year on November 11. The next one will be on November 11, 2022.

In Florida, allowing unlicensed assistants to perform your surgery and excise your hair follicles with FUE even under supervision is illegal and unethical especially when patients are not aware of who is doing the surgery. It is also a global problem where many illegal clinics are popping up by the thousands and operating without a doctor present.  Before you have hair follicles removed that will never grow back, ask who is going to be doing the actual surgery and not just part of the surgery. 

On November 11, 2021, members from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and members of an ISHRS Global Council Society assisted patients that have been a victim of botched hair transplants from illicit clinics throughout the world. Hair transplant surgeons in various countries corrected problems that have occurred with the objective of increasing awareness about the art and skill of hair transplantation. 

Dr. Mejia is a leading participant and specialist with over 20 years of hair restoration experience.  He is one of a few doctors who has taken the İSHRS pledge to personally  perform the surgery and not delegate.
