Eyelash transplantation is a safe, effective way to restore living and growing lashes to your eyelid. Using local anesthesia, Dr. Mejia can complete the procedure in about two hours in an office setting. Hair follicles from the back of the scalp (‘donor area’) are harvested and then implanted into the eyelid.
Dr. Mejia uses absorbable stitches to seal the donor area, which remain undetectable both during and after the healing process. Approximately 24 to 50 eyelashes or more lashes can be placed per eyelid during the procedure. Less numbers of eyelashes can be used in areas of trauma or after skin cancer surgery reconstruction.
The implanted follicles will grow and produce hair permanently. The newly growing lashes will possess the same characteristics as scalp hair, therefore, your new lashes will need to be routinely trimmed and curled.
