On the Fifth Day After Surgery, Still Feeling Fine

I’ve read the threads and spoken to people about the pain they experience following a hair transplant surgery but so far, thanks to the Lortab, I’m feeling no pain.

And my scabby hairline seems to healing just fine. Here is an iPhone photo I snapped a couple of hours ago compared to the one below, which I snapped about 18 hours earlier.

Dr. Mejia wrote me another script for the Lortab which I will pick up today and I’m assuming that should be the last batch. Lortab is essentially a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone, the latter which is an opioid.

It doesn’t get me high or buzzed but it makes me forget about the stitches in the back of my head. Otherwise, I find myself running my fingers along the stitches or on the new hair follicles on the top of my head.

I can feel a long line stretching in the back of my head in the shape of a smiley face. It runs from above one ear to the other ear. I try not to fiddle with it too much, which is where the Lortab helps.

I find it fascinating that I had such a gaping wound back there, judging from the picture in my previous post, but no pain at all.

I’ve talked a friend who had a hair transplant years ago and he said he felt tightness in his scalp for six months afterwards, so I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

The other thing is, I thought I would be embarrassed showing my face in public after the surgery, but I’ve been going about my routine as usual, court dates, photo assignments, bank errands, shopping trips, down to my local Cuban coffee shop.

I’m not even sure if people notice. Or if they do, they don’t really stare hard.

Right now, it just looks as if I have some weird punk hairstyle. Maybe I’ll start a trend.
